PANDA Unit Opens

PANDA Unit Opens

16 Nov 2020

We are now home to Australia’s first Psychiatric Alcohol and Non-Prescription Drug Assessment (PANDA) Unit that will provide specialist care to patients experiencing drug or alcohol-related psychotic episodes.

The $17.7 million six-bed unit was opened by Minister for Mental Health
Bronnie Taylor and funded by a $12 million grant from the NSW Government, as well as philanthropic support from SIRENS Group.

The purpose built unit is located within the Emergency Department, and will enable people presenting to us with addiction and complex mental health issues to receive the care they need in a safe and dignified space, while still being able to draw on the expertise of the Mental Health, Clinical Pharmacology and Alcohol & Drug teams.

Congratulations to all involved in making this new service a reality. The new PANDA Unit exemplifies our mission and values, delivering compassionate care to our most vulnerable communities.
