Clinical Genomics Unit

The Clinical Genomics Unit (CGU) was launched in 2016, with a mission to improve individual patient’s clinical and psychosocial outcomes through evidence-based and innovative service that enables genetic diagnosis, tailored treatment, and risk management of relatives.

The CGU is one of the few in the world that provides an integrated and public genomics service within the mainstream health care. The unique feature of the CGU is that we work closely with the genomic laboratory at Genome. One, as well as with specialist expertise on campus, in providing highly integrated multidisciplinary patient care. Together with St Vincent’s specialists, we provide the following Multidisciplinary (MDT) Clinics:

  • Cardiac Genomics Clinic
  • Neurogenomics Clinic
  • Vascular Genomics Clinic
  • Endocrine Genomics Clinic
  • Immunogenomics Clinic
  • Pharmacogenomics Clinic

We offer a comprehensive range of genomic and genetic testing options, including pharmacogenomics testing, if indicated, free of charge to our patients. We provide genetic risk assessment, genetic diagnosis, pre-test and post-test counselling, result interpretation, and consultative advice on rare disease management and/or risk management. We also offer psychosocial support to individuals and families who have concerns about their genetic diagnosis.

Referral Base: Adult patients aged 18 years or over, with a suspected genetic diagnosis that is non-cancer related. For cancer genetic syndromes please direct referrals to the Familial Cancer Clinic at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre.

For referrals to CGU, please fax or email the completed referral form
