ABC Conversations: Nursing on the Streets

 

When Erin Longbottom began working with St Vincent's Homeless Outreach Team, her first client was a teenager from New Zealand who had been sleeping rough under the Harbour Bridge after becoming estranged from his family.

The boy was in such poor health, he'd been rushed to surgery.

During his long and complex recovery, with no one else to turn to, Erin became his primary support.

The eventual success story of that young man remains as shining example to Erin of how people can be helped through crisis, to health and a home.
