Course overview:

This 3-day program covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of orthopaedic and trauma nursing to provide participants with the foundational knowledge and skill required in this specialty area.
The program is co-taught across The Mater, St. Vincent’s Public and St. Vincent’s Private Hospitals. Each of the hospitals host a day each of this three-day program.
The program consists of more than 20 sessions consisting of didactic presentations and interactive workshops (i.e., bone dissection, plaster, traction, and splints & slings) discussions, case studies and scenarios.

The program is facilitated by a range of orthopaedic nurses, allied health and medical specialists


Key topics:

On completion of this pathway, it is expected that participants will be able to:
- Describe bone and muscle anatomy and physiology, and bone healing
- Investigate orthopaedic disease processes, medication use and the importance of nutrition
- Differentiate types of fractures and orthopaedic wounds and their management
- Demonstrate traction application and removing plaster/fibre glass casts
- Examine complications of orthopaedic surgery and trauma.

Course Pre-requisites:

A workbook is provided prior to the workshop. Complete the pre-course anatomy section of the workbook prior to day 1.

Participants are required to organise their own travel and parking arrangements.


Cancellation policy:

Cancellation provided up to 5 working days before the program a full refund will be issued.
Cancellation past the 5 working days and before 24 hours prior to the program half refund will be issued.
Cancellation with 24hrs prior to the program no refund is issued.
