The Kirby Institute is a leading global research organisation dedicated to the prevention and treatment of HIV, viral hepatitis and other sexually transmissible and blood-borne infections.
We coordinate national surveillance programs and carry out population health and epidemiological research, clinical research and clinical trials.
Our work in the laboratory is focused on finding ways to control infections, develop new therapies and ultimately, preventative vaccines.
Our clinical and behavioural research programs work in partnership with communities most affected by epidemics to implement trials of behavioural and biomedical prevention interventions. These are designed to prevent the speed of infectious diseases in vulnerable populations.
We also provide critical leadership to decision makers in Australia and internationally on the most effective, efficient and sustainable strategies to address public health threats.
