Congratulations to the following colleagues who have been awarded an Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours:

COMPANION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA (AC)

Ms Belinda Hutchinson AC for her eminent service to business, to tertiary education and scientific research, and through philanthropic endeavours to address social disadvantage. Belinda is a former member of SVHA’s NSW Advisory Council and former board member of the St Vincent’s Health Board. Belinda is a Trustee of St Vincent's Curran Foundation and a very longstanding supporter and friend of St Vincent’s.

OFFICER OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA (AO)

Emeritus Professor Suzanne Crowe AM: For distinguished service to health and aged care administration, to clinical governance, biomedical research, and to education. Professor Crowe is former Head of the World Health Organization’s Regional Reference Laboratory for HIV Resistance. Suzanne is a current board director for St Vincent’s Health Australia and has a national leadership role in clinical governance in her role as a SVHA board director.

 ORDER OF AUSTRALIA MEDAL (OAM)

A/Professor Philip Cunningham OAM, Chief Operating Officer of St Vincent's Centre for Applied Medical Research who has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medical research and sexual health medicine.

 Phil joined St Vincent's as a Hospital Scientist in 1987, undertaking diagnostic testing for HIV and blood borne virus infectious diseases through the NSW State Reference Laboratory for HIV, when St Vincent's quickly became the epicentre for treatment and research in response to the HIV epidemic in Australia.

 Phil is actively engaged in public health research involving surveillance of target priority populations at risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, with a focus on improving access to HIV testing at the point of care, dry blood spot testing and is actively engaged in public health research involving surveillance of target priority populations at risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. His work has been extended throughout the Asia Pacific region.

This well-deserved honour recognises Phil's leadership and commitment to research, innovation and research leadership in Australia, especially in HIV and other blood borne viruses.

 

ORDER OF AUSTRALIA MEDAL (OAM)

Mr Peter Chadwick, St Vincent's Volunteer since 2009. Peter's wonderful service to St Vincent's includes:

•Volunteering at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre
•ICU Staff Advocate, Patient Safety and Quality Committee, and
•ICU Staff Advocate, Safe Harm Free Care Committee
