Professional Development

St Vincent’s has a long-standing commitment to education and professional development with significant time and financial resources invested in developing skills and fostering new talent. Programs and courses are offered across all disciplines and specialties, both clinical and non-clinical and are designed to build knowledge, skills and capacity across our workforce. Ongoing education is essential to ensure that the care and services that we provide are up to date, meet best practice standards and the needs and expectations of our patients, the organisation and the wider community. Corporate

Corporate learning at St Vincent’s is offered by the learning and development department which is part of Human Resources. Courses are offered across all areas of the organisation and across disciplines, and are designed to build knowledge, skills and capacity across our workforce. Ongoing education is essential to ensure that the services we provide are up to date and meet best practice standards, and the needs and expectations of our patients, the organisation and the wider community.

Nursing Education

Creating excellence in clinical practice is the driving force of St Vincent's Nurse Education and Development Centre and our training and development underpin St Vincent’s Strategic Plan and Capability Framework. The Nursing Education Centre programs and processes are a continuing demonstration of the organisation's mission and values.

St Vincent’s continues to offer diverse educational opportunities to our community of nurses ranging from undergraduate students and graduate nurses to nurses working towards expert level by completing postgraduate studies in their clinical area.

Allied Health

Education and training across all of our disciplines is aimed at ensuring excellence in contemporary clinical practice and is designed to the build knowledge, skills and capacity in our allied health workforce and is a continuing demonstration of the organisation's mission and values in action. 

Medicine

Medical education and training programs at St Vincent’s aim to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to promote safe and effective management of patients in accordance with the mission and values of St Vincent’s.

Simulation

The St Vincent’s Don Harrison Patient Safety and Simulation Centre and the ACU St Vincent’s Clinical school are our two interdisciplinary simulation centres at St Vincent’s. Both offer a state of the art training facilities for health professionals consisting of conference rooms, clinical skills/training areas, breakout rooms and simulation facilities. The Centres are an excellent resource for staff which allow for skill development and training to occur in simulated environments. The Centres offer a wide and varied range of programs and services to St Vincent's staff and external clients.

ACU & SVH Clinical School

The ACU & SVH Clinical school is a recent addition to the SVH Darlinghurst campus. The Clinical School contains two skills labs which are set up as a 5 bed and a 3 bed ward. Both are equipped to provide simulations and contain a range of equipment suitable for clinical skills development and practice. A separate room is designed as a consultation room and is particularly useful for allied health and mental health training. There is a large debrief room, which can be divided in to two separate rooms. If required, simulations occurring in the skills labs or the consult room can be viewed in the debrief room/s . Additionally there is an eLearning room with 6 monitors.  AV equipment for presentations, including interactive whiteboards are available in the debrief rooms, one of the skills labs and the eLearning room.
