St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney announces major donation from Goodman Foundation for Urban Health Hub
19 Mar 2026
St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney has received a generous gift of $10 million from the Goodman Foundation to go towards the establishment of an innovative Urban Health Hub, to be located on the site of the former Green Park Hotel in Darlinghurst.
The Goodman Foundation has committed major funding to support the transformation of the historic hotel into the Urban Health Hub, strengthening access to early intervention and recovery-focused mental health services in one of Australia’s most densely populated urban communities.
The partnership aligns with the Goodman Foundation’s focus on improving psychosocial wellbeing through mental health services, social connection, resilience, and life skills, and St Vincent’s long-standing commitment to delivering inclusive, compassionate care for all.
The St Vincent’s Goodman Urban Health Hub will be a purpose-built, non-clinical facility designed to provide accessible and compassionate support along with connection for people experiencing a range of social and health challenges.
The Hub will be co-designed by people with lived experience of mental ill-health. Operating on a walk-in basis, with no need for a referral, it will focus on early intervention and holistic care, bridging the gap between crisis and long-term support. Staffed by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, counsellors, social workers, and peer support workers from diverse backgrounds, it will act as a gateway to the full range of St Vincent’s services, including mental health, alcohol and drug, and homeless health.
The Hub will extend beyond traditional outpatient hours with evening and weekend services, including the Safe Haven Café, a proven peer-led program offering calm, non-judgemental support for people experiencing emotional distress.
With both St Vincent’s and Goodman deeply connected to the Sydney community, the initiative reflects a shared belief in investing in projects that strengthen long-term health and resilience.
Chair of Goodman Foundation, Alison Brink, said: “Mental health is a serious challenge facing our communities. This partnership is about delivering tangible, long-term support through essential infrastructure that provides care in a safe space using contemporary human programs that are easy to access.”
Chief Executive of St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney, Anna McFadgen, acknowledged the passage of time since the purchase of the hotel in 2020.
“The Green Park Hotel was a crucial part of this community for decades, and we know that affection for the space and its role in the history of Darlinghurst runs deep.
“This project continues the historic St Vincent’s mission of compassion, excellence and care for the vulnerable, dating back to 1857.
“The Hub will be a warm and welcoming place. It will stay true to the Green Park Hotel’s history as a place where people could gather and find support and community.
“We estimate up to 3,000 emergency department presentations could be redirected to the Hub each year,” Ms McFadgen said.
The St Vincent’s Goodman Urban Health Hub will be made possible through the generous philanthropic support of donors to the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation, which is the fundraising organisation for St Vincent’s Hospitals in NSW.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the Goodman Foundation and to the Hub’s other major donors whose contributions will enable us to deliver fairer, more equitable health care for all in our community,” Ms McFadgen said.
