Prof Lesley Campbell receives Lifetime Achievement Award

17 Nov 2020

Congratulations to Prof Lesley Campbell, who has been announced the 2020 recipient of the Australian Diabetes Society Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious award recognises Lesley’s service to education, clinical practice and research in diabetes, as well as her leadership.

Its timely recognition as Prof Campbell has announced her retirement.

Lesley joined St Vincent’s as a Senior Medical Registrar in 1974. She has been a mentor for many young and upcoming physicians and a role model for other, particularly female trainees who have modelled their careers on hers. Through her appointment at the Garvan she published over 250 scientific papers in national and international journals.

In acknowledging her retirement, long-time colleagues; Professors Jerry Greenfield and Don Chisholm noted “In short, Professor Campbell is a model physician, teacher, researcher, advocate and mentor. Whilst we have all benefited from our associations with her, it is her patients who have gained the most. She has unselfishly given her time and energy to make real changes to improve their health and wellbeing”.

Congratulations, and thank you Lesley for your outstanding contribution to diabetes and endocrinology clinical, research & teaching in Australia.
