St Vincent's announced double-finalists in City of Sydney Business Awards

08 Aug 2021

St Vincent’s has been announced as a double finalist in the prestigious Sydney City Business Awards, in two major categories.

Our COVID response is a finalist for the major Outstanding Community or Cultural Organisation Award, recognising the rapid response to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 disease. In particular this recognition highlighted the rapid establishment of the SVHNS Emergency Operations Centre, the community testing clinics, the vaccination hub, as well as the exponential growth and deployment of virtual care. All vital components of keeping our local community safe.

Additionally, St Vincent’s is also a finalist in the category of Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion award for the Emergency Department’s FlexiClinic ‘Stay’n Deadly & Stay’n In’ Project.

FlexiClinic has made critical inroads in providing accessible, culturally safe and appropriate services for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The project team has been able to reduce our incomplete treatment rates down from 19.5% to 4.5%. In a period of only 10 months they elevated us from one of the lowest performing EDs in the state to one of the best. Our team are now regularly contacted by other hospitals around Australia looking to replicate the St Vincent’s model of care for Aboriginal people presenting to the ED, ensuring the best possible health outcomes.

It is wonderful to see such community recognition of your collective hard work, passion, and determination to serve our Mission of responding to community need.

The winners will be announced later this year, and will become finalists at the State Business Awards. Congratulations to all involved.
