St Vincent's launches GP Cancer Support Line

26 Oct 2021

St Vincent’s Hospital  has launched the GP Cancer Support Line a new centralised GP cancer and cancer-related palliative care support line based at The Kinghorn Cancer centre. Part of a wider new service, GPCanShare aims to enhance cancer management in the region by strengthening integration between cancer specialists, community services, and general practice.

General Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Primary Care providers can call for specialist cancer care advice, including general service navigation and cancer related enquiries and also for their patients receiving cancer care- enhancing knowledge of best practice cancer management and local cancer services.

The Central and Eastern Sydney PHN funded GPCanShare service involves collaboration between SLHD, SESLHD, SVLHN and general practices in the region with establishment of an integrated model of care whereby hospital-based cancer care clinical nurse consultants liaise with General Practice. The service will increase the communication links between the acute and primary care teams, providing access to timely information and resources for GPs.

The GPCanshare project aims to support the capacity of general practice to enhance the management of people with cancer and cancer-related palliative care needs across the continuum of their cancer journey.
