Improving Cancer Care for All

GPCanShare aims to facilitate the seamless transfer of information between the acute and primary settings with Primary Care Clinical Nurse Consultants (CNCs) based at 
The Kinghorn Cancer centre at St Vincent’s hospital liaising with general practices to enhance the management of cancer in primary care.

GPCanshare incorporates a centralised GP Cancer support line (1800 GPLINE) which offers timely support and specialist expertise for all matters cancer and cancer-related palliative care.
GPs, Practice Nurses and Primary care providers located across the Sydney and South Eastern Sydney Local health Districts and St Vincent’s Local Health Network can call for specialist cancer 
care advice and information for their adult patients.

 Susan Stapleton

 

Susan began her nursing career in 1998 as a registered nurse on Haematology/Bone Marrow Transplant ward. She worked at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, the world's first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research, education whilst completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cancer Nursing in 2001.

Susan arrived in Sydney in 2003 and has since worked at St Vincent’s Hospital across cancer services including clinical trials and for the last 10 years as the Haematology Cancer Care Coordinator. 

Susan commenced her GPCanShare position in March 2021.

Mary Hayes                            

 

  Mary began her nursing career in Ireland, graduating from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2014 and working at St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin before travelling to Australia. Since 2016, she has worked in cancer services at St. Vincent’s Hospital Sydney across both haematology/bone marrow transplant and medical oncology. 

Mary has been employed in the GPCanShare role since February 2021.

CANCAN  

Simone has worked for over 17 years in the inpatient and outpatient cancer care setting in clinical, clinical education, and care coordination areas specialising in Medical Oncology, Haematology, BMT+CT and Palliative care throughout her career.

Enjoying roles across the wider Sydney tertiary hospital network including at St Vincent’s and The Kinghorn cancer centre, it is with pleasure Simone continues her cancer nursing applying her comprehensive skills to the support line service promoting integrated person-centred cancer care and is excited to contribute to improved experiences for people affected by cancer, health care providers and clinicians.
