Intellectual property

Intellectual Property (IP) represents the property of your mind or intellect. It can be an invention, original design, or the practical application of an original idea. In science and medicine, IP can include methods of treatment, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, therapies or diagnostics.

St Vincent’s Hospital supports and encourages staff and students to develop ideas which might have commercial potential.  The Intellectual Property Committee is responsible for coordinating this support and also advises the St Vincent’s Hospital Chief Executive Officer about IP issues.

The Intellectual Property Committee membership includes but is not limited to:

  •  Director of Research, SVHNS (Chair)
  •  The SVHNS CEO or a senior executive nominated by the CEO(currently the Director of Clinical Governance and Chief Medical Officer, SVHNS)
  •  Director Finance, SVHNS
  •  Technical Experts including at least one person involved in intellectual property commercialisation or medical research
  •  Research Office Manager
  •  Senior Legal Counsel
