Transition to ICU

The TIC Program aims to support the RN’s transition into ICU and fast track their development over a 12 month period and provides initial ICU Orientation and Education, followed by a two week supernumerary period and a further 4 week preceptorship. The cohort of successful candidates will be supported simultaneously to complete the NSW ICU Transition to Specialty Practice Program (TTSP) over the initial 12 months of employment.

This program is open to second year and up RNs, without ICU experience, but who had at least one full year of Acute Ward experience. The 12 month TIC Program aims to support the RN to;
  • transition into ICU using an extended orientation and preceptor model
  • to complete the NSW ICU Transition to Specialty Practice Program (TTSP)
  • to complete our ICU’s Novice and Advanced Beginner Level 1A skills & competencies 

The program includes two x six month rotations between the Cardiothoracic/Transplant and the General/Neuro/Trauma ICU specialties, together with ongoing employment.
