St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Scholarship in Safety and Quality

The St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Scholarship in Safety and Quality will be awarded each year to support successful applicants in developing their skills and capacity in translating ideas, research and concepts from local and overseas health services or non-health industries, into world’s best-practice in Safety and Quality initiatives here at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney.

Safe, high quality patient care is at the foundation of the work we do here at St. Vincent’s. As we work towards zero preventable harm for our patients, we would like to encourage our staff to get behind this movement by supporting their professional development.

This Scholarship will provide educational support to those interested in attending specific local and/or overseas conferences, workshops and/or program related to Quality and Safety in order to implement greater development of these skills at St Vincent’s to bring about zero preventable harm for our patients.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Scholarship in Safety & Quality you must meet the following criteria:

  • Permanently employed in a full time or part time capacity
  • 100% compliance with Mandatory Training
  • Nil excessive annual leave balance
  • Support of your Manager and relevant Clinical Manager, or Clinical Stream Director or Senior Leadership Team Director
  • Preferably will attend an education event in 2022

Expectations upon Completion of Scholarship

The St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Scholarship in Safety & Quality provides you with great learning opportunities. We ask that you share your learnings with the hospital by:

  • Presenting at the Annual Patient Safety and Quality Forum in 2023
  • Presenting at appropriate Committee Meetings and team/department meetings
  • Lead or Implement a safety improvement activity at SVHNS promoting Zero Preventable Patient Harm
  • Provide reports of your learnings within one month of attending the education event.

Funding

The St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Scholarship in Safety & Quality will provide funding up to $10,000 for:

  • Travel
  • Accommodation
  • Conferences/Workshops/Program
  • Paid study leave

How to Apply

Submissions for the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Scholarship in Safety and Quality open on the 24th June 2022 and close on the 29th July at 5pm 2022.

The applications will be reviewed by a panel of senior reviewers with recommendations to the CEO of SVHNS and the CEO of the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation. Successful applicants will be announced at the Safety and Quality Forum 12th August, 2022.

  • 500 words on how you believe the education event can support you and St Vincent’s Hospital in working towards Zero Preventable Patient Harm.

  • A letter from your manager supporting your attendance to nominated event
  • Information on chosen overseas conferences, workshops and/or program
  • Copy of travel and accommodation itinerary
