Information about St Joseph's Hospital

The future of St Joseph's Hospital Auburn

After an extensive period of deliberation and careful consideration, and in consultation with NSW Health, St Vincent’s Health Australia has decided to decommission St Joseph’s Hospital.  We continue to accept referrals and all current services will continue to run until clinical service transition is complete.

While St Joseph’s Hospital has a proud history of public service provision to our community, the viability and sustainability of the Campus has been under threat for many years due to our ageing infrastructure.

Another challenge has been that owing to its relatively small size, it has become difficult to operate as a small stand-alone hospital in a viable way, despite the extraordinary work of our staff. Regardless of our best efforts over the past ten years, we have not been able to secure the necessary investment to address the deteriorating infrastructure.

Given the significance of St Joseph’s Hospital for the community we have long served, and the impact of this decision has for our dedicated staff, this has been an extremely difficult decision.
