Course overview:

The aim of the program is to provide essential theory and practical (manikin based) for venepuncture & cannulation technique and enable clinicians to develop the requisite skills to be able to safely perform cannulation in such a way that complies with NSW Health Policies.


Nurse Educators

Key topics:

On completion of the workshop, participants will have acquired the underpinning knowledge, technical skill, clinical practice and clinical assessment to safely provide care to a patient undergoing cannulation and venepuncture. It is expected that participants will be able to:

Argue the importance of maintaining hand hygiene requirements and aseptic technique whilst performing the procedure
Demonstrate effective communication with and preparing patients for the procedure
Discuss the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral vascular system
Identify and locate suitable veins and appropriate cannula sizes for various clinical situations and scenarios
Investigate complications and their management relating to venous access
Execute satisfactory cannulation & venepuncture insertion technique.

Cancellation past the 5 working days and before 24 hours prior to the program half refund will be issued.
