Kidney disorders

The St Vincent’s nephrology department provides a comprehensive and multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient consulting services (including general nephrology, Renal transplant, Dialysis, Renal supportive care). This includes managing a range of renal disorders: 

  • Acute Kidney Injury
  • Management of Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Immune Glomerular Disease
  • Hypertension
  • Nephrolithiasis
  • Haemodialysis (home, in-centre, satellite) and Peritoneal Dialysis
  • Renal transplantation – including combined and sequential heart kidney transplantation

We provide

  • Haemodialysis services
  • Peritoneal dialysis services including home training and in-patient management
  • Outpatient clinics

St Vincent’s Nephrology department provides specialist assessment, diagnosis and management across a range of nephrology clinics for patients with kidney diseases

Referrals

A referral from your GP (valid for 12 months) or another medical specialist (valid for 3 months) is required to access our service and should be addressed to one of our specialists listed below.

To support timely triage of referrals, referrals should include relevant clinical information, investigation results and the reason for referral.

Incomplete referrals may delay triage and appointment allocation.

Our Team

St Vincent's is a teaching hospital, and the department is active in clinical research. The Renal Resource Centre provides an optimal environment for collaborative research. Our key areas of interest include outcomes for kidney and combined solid organ transplant recipients, clinical trials in kidney transplantation, and hypertension. Many of our staff hold academic appointments at the Universities of New South Wales and University of Notre Dame.
